WELLNESS & WEIGHT LOSS
Wellness: noun well·ness | \ˈwel-nəs \ Definition of wellness : the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal. (See Webster)
I love this definition! I mean, specifically the words “actively sought”. It suggests that to be well we need to be in the pursuit of it and it also reminds us that being well is something that we need to strive for.
I come from a long line of people who always put their health last in their life and you know what? We seem to do what we’re taught to do………until we know better OR the doctor gives us a What-For! You do what you know how to do, right? When you know better, you do better. So says the incomparable Maya Angelo and so says Dianne Gill who is in complete agreement.
Getting and staying above the wellness line is truly an act of will. We have the choice of staying stuck in a place of despair with our health goals, or not. No one can change that but us! We are each responsible for our own well-being.
I have felt this gloom and despair that I mention above – it comes from many years of battling the bulge. My favorite day to start my new program was always Monday. Yeah, I use to start every Monday and if I ran in the ditch with breakfast on Monday……I had to wait until the next Monday to re-start. OH MY! Sound familiar?
I use to that think of each attempt at wellness as a failure. Now, I know that what I was telling myself was simply a lie. The struggles I’ve experienced had meaning and taught me something every single time, they made me stronger and even more determined!
As you will learn about me in the pages of this blog I feel like all of the struggles I’ve faced have prepared me for what I’m living in today. Staying well takes work for most of us. We have this one life, only one. As my granny use to say “this life ain’t no rehearsal”. We don’t get to erase and start all over the way I did with diets for so many years.
It’s taken me a while to get my priorities straight on this. What was the turning point? I had to clear out the cobwebs in my mind that were getting in the way of my wellness goals. I truly believe that losing weight and staying well begins in the mind. If we don’t start there, most times, we spend an enormous amount of effort trying to “fix” an inward problem with an outward solution. When we heal the inside it’s been my experience that the body aligns. Make sense?
Friend, I’ve wogged (my word walk + jog) many a 5K, spent countless hours doing floor work, cardio and various exercises. However, until I was able to get my mind clear of emotional wreckage that had been harbored there for years I kept losing the same weight over and over. It is only then that I realized that those emotions, hurt, pain and negative self-talk has been my biggest source of feeling defeated.
Loving ourselves enough to take care of our bodies will allow us to live in wellness my friend. Just as important it will allow us to be well and stay present for all of those we love! That’s what this blog is all about. My greatest hope is to be a good source of inspiration and support for you with the knowledge that I have gained over the years.
